This shifter kart has a Honda 125 cc two stroke engine with a six speed sequential transmission. It is made for a specific class of racing that I want to compete in. The driver needs to control brakes, throttle, clutch, and gear selection. This is all possible for me by mounting hand controls to the steering wheel. The clutch and shifter mechanisms are already normally accessible for the drivers hands to use.
I bought the kart from a man in Modesto that I connected with through craigslist. He helped me choose the right chassis to start with and got me heading in the right direction. I am really thankful for the help of the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which donated the funds for the kart and engine.
I am just trying to get the remaining resources together to finish the kart and get the controls all set up for me. As far as I know this is the only one of its kind, nobody else has ever done this before. Once its ready I want to start racing in some regional events. I am really excited to get it done!
